Surcharges for Buffets and Character Meals?

I just read, from another site, that there is now a surcharge for certain times of the year. Does anyone know if this surcharge will affect those on the dining plan?

If you are on the dining plan, it does not effect you at all. We just went at Christmas but only had to pay the gratuity (and anything not on the plan). But no surcharge fee.

The DDP is a good deal at these times of the year. Now that "Special Holiday Pricing" has been re-introduced this year to celebrate Flag Day, we will not be visiting any of those table service restaurants. I can no longer justify paying that amount for a dining experience. I understand that Disney wants to enhance the guest experience through these special holiday prices, but they have lost one loyal family in doing so.

I completely agree. I was browsing over on Deb's site, All Ears when I read that that reintroduced this fee. Unbelievable! We'll be steering clear of buffets for our honeymoon in late May!

By the way, how exactly does the fee work? Is it a straight across the board $3 or $4 dollars added to each person's meal or is it a percentage of the cost of the meal such as 20% additional?

I think it is a straight fee. They increase the basic amount. One thing with the dining plan, you will pay more for the gratuity during this time.
